Abstract
The article discusses the impact of modern communication technologies, such as the internet, social networks, and mobile applications, on how organized criminal groups conduct human trafficking internationally. A detailed exploration of this topic reveals how the rapid expansion of information technologies has transformed and enhanced the effectiveness of criminal networks in exploiting victims through various methods, including sexual exploitation, forced labor, illegal organ harvesting, illegal adoptions, and forced marriages. Technology provides traffickers with multiple benefits such as anonymity, the ability to communicate in encrypted and real- time, access to a wide audience, geographical mobility, and remote control of victims. Furthermore, traffickers have taken advantage of the expansion of e-commerce and legislative gaps in regulation and data protection to further expand their operations. The article highlights the need to adapt legislation and anti-trafficking measures to respond to the challenges posed by technological advancements.
