Abstract

Organized crime represents one of the most serious threats to national and international security, and the Republic of Moldova is no exception. This article explores some peculiarities of organized crime in the context of the Republic of Moldova, highlighting aspects such as types of criminal activities, organized structures, operating methods, and impact on society. Organized crime in the Republic of Moldova manifests itself in various forms, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, fraud, and corruption. Organized criminal groups operate in complex networks, with strong leaders and members specialized in different criminal activities. One distinctive aspect of organized crime in the Republic of Moldova is the close link between politics and criminality. Criminal groups are often involved in high-level corruption, using influence and resources to consolidate their power and control over various sectors of the economy and society. The impact of organized crime on the Republic of Moldova is profound, affecting social and economic stability, undermining trust in public institutions, and weakening the rule of law. Moreover, there are connections between organized crime in the Republic of Moldova and international networks, expanding the sphere of influence and threatening regional and global security. To counter this threat, the Republic of Moldova must take effective actions at both national and international levels, including strengthening law enforcement institutions, enhancing the capacity for investigation and prosecution of criminals, international cooperation, and promoting transparency and accountability in public administration.
